Our client is a leading global shipping group with more than 30,000 employees worldwide and over $20 billion in revenue. The organisation is constructing a new, state-of-the-art cold store facility located at DP World London Gateway Logistics Park on the Thames Estuary. The project represents a major milestone for the shipping line’s strategy to develop a range of inland logistics services, and will ultimately form the blueprint for similar facilities elsewhere in the global business.
The hire of an outstanding Managing Director, Cold Storage would be key to the success of this marquee project. Responsibilities included managing construction and implementation of cold store project before taking full operational and financial leadership of the facility. The Managing Director will implement and direct all warehouse operations utilising continuous improvement and lean operational excellence in addition to ensuring the highest standards of health & safety. In a highly complex fast paced environment the role demands outstanding stakeholder management across the Group, customers and other external partners.
The client hired Bailey Montagu after an unsuccessful attempt to fill the role through another search provider. Bailey Montagu undertook a rigorous research process which included including speaking to key sources in the market. The successful Candidate brought vast experience in transport and distribution including P&L management, best practice operations, site set up, commercial relationship management and leadership of large workforces. This individual had worked across diverse industries including having run large, complex cold storage facilities. In addition, they had the personal style and leadership presence to successfully develop positive, long term relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
When Bailey Montagu made the initial approach the Candidate was not actively looking for another role. Nevertheless, the prospect of leading the construction and operation of a strategically important facility was a compelling reason to consider the opportunity. Bailey Montagu presented three Candidates for interview, all of which were considered by the client to be strong. Bailey Montagu worked closely with both client and candidates though a protracted interview process to secure a successful conclusion.
