Contracting permanent staff rates highlights the importance of quality Interim Management solutions

The hiring of temporary recruits is on the rise in the UK. A recent poll of 400 recruiters conducted by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation and the professional services firm, KPGM, shows that in April, temporary placements grew at their fastest rate in seven months. Meanwhile, the number of permanent placements being offered by companies dropped at the quickest rate in over two years.

The rising trend of hiring temporary staff opposed to permanent is owed, in part, to companies hedging themselves against economic uncertainty.

However, the same research also revealed that starting pay for temporary and permanent employees increased in April. Companies are offering higher levels of pay in a bid to attract candidates with the right skills.

Claire Warnes, partner in skills and productivity at KPMG UK, said the preference of hiring short-term staff continued unabated into April. “Businesses remain cautious about committing to permanent hires in the face of ongoing economic uncertainty, which led to the quickest increase in temporary billings for seven months.”
